Argentinian full-back Placente arrived at Celta last summer after four and a half years with Bayer O4 Leverkusen, signing an initial 12-month deal. Following Celta's sixth-placed finish in the Primera División, coach Fernando Vázquez has moved to secure the long-term services of a player who appeared 25 times in the 2005/06 campaign. Formerly with AA Argentinos Juniors and CA River Plate, Placente has won 22 Argentina caps, the last of which came in June 2005.
