The 26-year-old Malian international will lead the French club in their Ligue 1 and UEFA Cup campaigns after the 28-year-old Brazilian defender Vitorino Hilton asked to be relieved of armband duties. "Everybody at the club wanted Seydou to step up," said coach Francis Gillot after handing the responsibility to his midfielder. Keita has been at Lens since the 2002/03 season and made 35 appearances last term, scoring three goals.
