'Huge potential'
The 20-year-old defender has been limited to three league appearances at Old Trafford since moving to England in 2003, and spent last term on loan at Charlton Athletic FC. His season was cut short by a dislocated shoulder which also denied the Chicago-born full-back a place at the FIFA World Cup, but he impressed enough during his 20 Premiership outings to catch the eye of West Ham. "He has huge potential," manager Alan Pardew said. "With a UEFA Cup campaign to look forward to, he will add to our defensive capacity."
