Surgery needed
Kuranyi, who turns 24 tomorrow, complained of soreness in his left knee in training today and has been diagnosed with a partially torn cartilage. Although the problem will require an operation, Schalke are confident that Kuranyi will play again this season and that the injury will not jeopardise his chances of making Germany's FIFA World Cup squad. Kuranyi has scored nine goals in 23 Bundesliga games since joining the Gelsenkirchen club from VfB Stuttgart last summer.
