Fernandez handed touchline ban

Olympique de Marseille coach Jean Fernandez and his assistant Albert Emon have been banned for offences at last week's visit of FC Zenit St. Petersburg.

Olympique de Marseille coach Jean Fernandez and his assistant Albert Emon have been suspended from the touchline for one match for incidents related to the French club's UEFA Cup Round of 16 first leg against FC Zenit St. Petersburg last Thursday.

Comments to the referee
UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body took its verdict against Fernandez on the basis of remarks made by the coach to the match referee Luis Medina Cantalejo after the game at Marseille's Stade Vélodrome, which Zenit won 1-0. Emon received his punishment for his expulsion from the technical area in the 82nd minute for contesting the referee's decisions. Fernandez has also been fined €1,900 (CHF3,000).

From the grandstand
The decision, which cannot be the subject of an appeal, means the Marseille coaching duo must watch the return leg in St Petersburg on Thursday from the grandstand. They will not be allowed in the dressing room, tunnel or technical area before and during the match, or allowed to have any contact with the Marseille bench.
