'Experienced players'
The 26-year-old left-sided international has inked a contract until the summer of 2008, and will be fighting for a place along with Basel's other new recruit - Sweden defender Majstorovic. "We have signed two experienced players of great quality," said coach Christian Gross.
Limited opportunities
Nakata had been playing in France with Olympique de Marseille, but made just nine Ligue 1 appearances in two seasons following his arrival from Kashima Antlers. Capped 53 times by Japan, he is primarily a defender but can also play in midfield.
Majstorovic arrives
The 28-year-old Majstorovic has also agreed a two-and-a-half year deal, and joins from Dutch team FC Twente. Gross described the player, who has Croatian roots, as a "boss in defence". He should be eligible for Basel's UEFA Cup last-32 tie against AS Monaco FC.
