Striker Martijn Meerdink has signed an enhanced contract at AZ Alkmaar which will see him stay with the Dutch UEFA Cup contenders until 2010.
Better terms
The 29-year-old's original agreement was due to expire in the summer of 2007, but the club have moved to improve his terms to recognise his contribution to the team as they await their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie against Real Betis Balompié.
National call-up
Meerdink joined AZ from De Graafschap in 2002 and was called into the Dutch national team for the games against Romania and Armenia in March 2005. However, his experience with the Netherlands ended badly as he tore cruciate ligaments in training which ruled him out for six months.
