Extra cover
With Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Georgios Samaras having left the Dutch club for Ajax and Manchester City FC respectively during this transfer window, Heerenveen had been short of attacking options. The addition of the former FC Dordrecht, Chamois Niortais FC, FC Volendam and Heart of Midlothian FC striker bolsters their front line.
Eligible for Europe
Having joined from English second-division side Leicester, Surinam-born De Vries should be eligible to play for Heerenveen in the UEFA Cup last-32 tie against FC Steaua Bucuresti, provided he is registered in time. Heerenveen, who finished third in UEFA Cup Group F, are eighth in the Eredivisie.
