US Cittá di Palermo have appointed Giuseppe Papadopulo as their new coach, just a day after parting company with Luigi Del Neri in the aftermath of their 3-1 home defeat against AC Siena. Papadopulo joins the Sicilian UEFA Cup contenders for the remainder of the season.
Lazio achievement
Papadopulo made his name at Siena, where he guided the club to two consecutive promotions from Serie C1 to Serie A. He took control of S.S. Lazio midway through last season, helping them rise to 13th to avoid relegation, before being replaced by Delio Rossi during the summer.
Slavia showdown
After a bright start, Palermo have slipped to tenth in the Serie A table, with 26 points from 22 matches. They face SK Slavia Praha in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 over two legs on 16 and 23 February.
