Bradley earns Heerenveen chance

UEFA Cup contenders SC Heerenveen have moved to sign United States youth international midfielder Michael Bradley on a three-and-a-half year contract.

Successful trial
The 18-year-old central midfielder, who joins from New York-based Major League Soccer side MetroStars, has been on trial at Heerenveen and impressed the club's technical staff sufficiently to earn a permanent contract, subject to a medical.

Strong presence
Bradley made 30 league appearances for MetroStars in the 2005 season, showing a combative style by collecting eight yellow cards and one red, although that is allied to a perceptive passing game. Currently part of the United States Under-20 team, the former U17 international is a graduate of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He is eligible to be registered for the remainder of Heerenveen's UEFA Cup campaign, with FC Steaua Bucuresti the Dutch club's next opposition in the Round of 32.
