Four-year deal
The Mali international, 28 next month, has agreed a four-year contract with the Spanish side with his buy-out fee being set at €25m. He is seen as a replacement for Julio Baptista, who was sold to Real Madrid CF in July, and will link up with on-loan Argentinian international Javier Saviola in attack.
London move
Kanouté started out in the youth teams at Olympique Lyonnais, where he spent three years before signing for English outfit West Ham United FC in 2000. He scored 29 league goals in three seasons at Upton Park, but transferred to Tottenham in June 2003 and registered 14 times in 60 matches for the north Londoners.
