Four-year contract
The 20-year-old has moved from GD Chaves, who have just been relegated from the second tier of Portuguese football. The centre-back, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, has penned a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. Guimarães will enter the UEFA Cup in September's first round.
Plenty of competition
Geromel arrived in Portugal from SE Palmeiras in 2003/04, and by January 2005 had risen to the Chaves first team. Guimarães coach Jaime Pacheco beat several other clubs to his signature and the player becomes one of five centre-halves at Pacheco's disposal, including fellow new boy Sereno, Attila Dragóner, Cléber and Medeiros.
