The former FC Porto and Sporting Clube de Portugal player, who turns 30 today, has agreed a one-year contract with Guimarães, after scoring five goals in 29 league games for Penafiel. Clayton arrived in Portugal for the 1999/00 campaign, joining CD Santa Clara. He moved to Porto that same term and would eventually win the SuperLiga in 2002/03.
Consistent displays
He switched to Sporting the following season but struggled to establish himself, prompting the transfer to Penafiel. His consistent displays in 2004/05 helped Penafiel avoid relegation by finishing eleventh in the Portuguese top flight. Guimarães secured a place in September's first round of the 2005/06 UEFA Cup after finishing fifth.
