Abate, 18, spent last term at SSC Napoli in Serie C1 where he played 29 games and scored two goals. The left-sided player is the third to join Sampdoria on a temporary basis from Milan this summer after Marco Borriello and Samuele Dalla Bona.

The Blucerchiati, who have also signed Luigi Sala and Lamberto Zauli, will play in the UEFA Cup after finishing fifth in Serie A last season. They will enter the competition in September's first round.
