Thigh strain
The Brazilian defender was hurt in the Eagles' final training session before their departure to Russia for Thursday's match, the first leg of the Round of 32 tie. André Luís - who joined Benfica last month - suffered a thigh strain during the session and joins another centre-half, Ricardo Rocha, on the sidelines.
Short of options
Ricardo Rocha picked up a similar injury in Benfica's goalless draw at SC Braga on Saturday and coach Giovanni Trapattoni now has only two centre-backs available for the game in Moscow, Luisão and Aduardo Alcides.
