Sevilla capture Correia
Friday, January 21, 2005
Article summary
Sevilla FC have completed the transfer of Brazilian international Adriano Correia from Coritiba FC.
Article body
World youth champion
Correia is a left-sided player who can operate at full-back or further forward down the flank. He played alongside his new Sevilla team-mate Daniel Alves in Brazil's FIFA World Youth Championship-winning side in 2003, and gained his first senior caps for Brazil in the Copa América last year.
Eligibility question
Correia is presently the fourth player at the club from outside the European Union but one of Sevilla's other Brazilians, Renato, is in the process of gaining a European passport, by virtue of his Italian grandfather, thus freeing up the third place for non-EU players for the new boy. He will be eligible for Sevilla's UEFA Cup campaign, where they meet Panathinaikos FC in the last 32 next month.
