Sevilla FC will be without defender Sergio Ramos for a month while the player recovers from a sprained knee.
Article body
Stretched ligament
Ramos sustained the injury in the 60th minute of last night's 4-0 home defeat by FC Barcelona after colliding with Ludovic Giuly and was immediately substituted. Club doctor Juan de Dios Beas said that the 18-year-old had stretched the lateral internal ligament and damaged cartilage in his left knee and would need several weeks to recover.
Sevilla fifth
The lay-off will prevent Ramos taking part in either leg of the club's forthcoming UEFA Cup tie against Panathinaikos FC, on 16 and 24 February. Sevilla sit fifth in the Primera División but have won just one of their last four league matches.
