Article body
Panathinaikos FC coach Zdenek Šcasný has boosted his team's hopes of retaining the Greek title with the signing of Cypriot international winger Constantinos Charalambides from APOEL FC.
Ambitions fulfilled
The 23-year-old is a product of APOEL's youth system and has been capped 14 times by Cyprus. Charalambides, who has signed a two-year contract with an option for a further two seasons, told his new club's official website: "Panathinaikos are the side that fulfils my personal ambitions. I want to prove myself in the Greek league."
Cup tied
However, the right-sided midfield player will not be able to represent Panathinaikos in the remainder of their UEFA Cup campaign this season, having already played - and scored - against AC Sparta Praha for the Cypriot title-holders in the second qualifying round of the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League.
Panathinaikos progress
Panathinaikos, who meet Sevilla FC in the UEFA Cup round of 32 in February after exiting the Champions League group phase, are currently one point behind Olympiacos CFP at the top of the Alpha Ethniki.
