Article body
Feyenoord have signed American international defender Cory Gibbs from Major League Soccer.
Trial period
The club have not revealed the fee that they paid for the 25-year-old, who had been playing for Dallas Burn. Gibbs impressed coach Ruud Gullit during a trial at Feyenoord's winter training camp in Gran Canaria, playing in friendly games against Rosenborg BK and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
German spell
He has now signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the Rotterdam club and is looking forward to his second spell in Europe. He played previously in Germany for FC St. Pauli, becoming the youngest player from the United States to score in the Bundesliga in 2001, at the age of 19. He has picked up 13 caps for the US since making his debut in 2003.
Busy week
It has been a busy week of transfer activity at De Kuip, with Nicky Hofs and Alexander Östlund also arriving at the club. Gibbs, like Hofs, will be eligible to play in the UEFA Cup, where Feyenoord take on Sporting Clube de Portugal in the last 32 next month.
