VfB Stuttgart striker Marco Streller faces further surgery to repair damage to a broken leg.
EURO heartbreak
The Swiss international broke his shin and fibula while preparing for UEFA EURO 2004™ with the Swiss national team. Despite returning to the Stuttgart team in December, appearing as a late substitute in the UEFA Cup tie against NK Dinamo Zagreb, doctors have decided that he requires another operation because the bones are not healing properly.
Constant pain
The 23-year-old has been in pain for the last few weeks and underwent scans in Basel on his return from the Bundesliga club's winter training camp in Marbella. He will require at least three weeks' rest after the operation and will then work on regaining full fitness, which means he could well miss Stuttgart's UEFA Cup tie against Parma FC next month.
