Rapaic snapped up by Standard

Belgian side R. Standard de Liège have signed the out-of-contract Croatia midfield player Milan Rapaic.

Ancona departure
Despite the transfer window being closed, the Belgian side were able to acquire the services of the 31-year-old international because he had been without a club since leaving Ancona Calcio last summer. After representing his country at UEFA EURO 2004™, Rapaic had been training with his former club HNK Hajduk Split, where he began his career in 1991.

Experienced performer
The left-footed Rapaic initially spent five years with Hajduk before moving to Italian side AC Perugia in 1996. He moved to Fenerbahçe SK in Turkey four years later and stayed there until January 2003. After just eleven months back at Hajduk, Rapaic moved on to Ancona last November but left the club following their relegation. He has a contract with Standard until June 2006 but will not be eligible to play in the UEFA Cup group stage.
