Loncarevic takes Dinamo reins

NK Dinamo Zagreb have a new coach after confirming the appointment of Ilija Loncarevic.

Two-year contract
Loncarevic is back at the club for a third spell in charge and replaces Nenad Gracan who resigned yesterday in the wake of a 4-2 defeat at HNK Rijeka. "We agreed everything for a two-year contract," said the new man. Gracan quit after less than three months in the post following a poor display at Rijeka, where Dinamo trailed 4-0 until late goals from Ivan Bošnjak and Veldin Karic narrowed the deficit.

'Results not going well'
That result left them fifth in the Croatian First League, six points behind leaders NK Inter Zaprešic. Gracan, who replaced Nikola Jurcevic at the end of August, said: "I was thinking about it all night and finally decided to quit. Results in the domestic championship are not going well."

Background
The 60-year-old Loncarevic's second spell as Dinamo coach ended three years ago and he has since worked at Inter, where he won promotion to the top flight, and the Libyan national team. He was also, for a short while, the sports director at Dinamo, before leaving for Libya in September last year.

Striker attacked
To complete a miserable weekend for Dinamo, striker Dario Zahora was attacked by a small group of supporters as he was leaving the stadium following Saturday's defeat. He was struck several times and suffered light injuries, but was able to join training yesterday. This was the second attack on Zahora in the last few months, the first coming outside his own home.

Opening win
For all their domestic troubles, Dinamo travel to Portugal in second place in Group G after winning their opening match in the section 6-1 against Belgian club KSK Beveren on 4 November.
