Month-long absence
The 31-year-old Croatian international has been diagnosed with meniscus damage and will be sidelined for four to six weeks, ruling him out of the visit of Dnipro on 16 September and the return in Ukraine a fortnight later. Rosso's side entered the UEFA Cup after a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round defeat by Rosenborg BK.
'A phenomenal player'
Coach Roni Levy said: "Giovani had a knee problem and we anticipated that we would have to play without him. We will miss Giovani because he is a phenomenal player. But he is a fighter and will be back sooner than people expect."
