Summer signings
The 24-year-old full-back is a victim of Barça's summer recruitment drive which has brought experienced Brazilian defenders Sylvinho, Juliano Belletti and Edmílson to the Camp Nou in a bid to strengthen the back four.
Homegrown
Sylvinho arrived from RC Celta de Vigo, Belletti from Villarreal CF, and Edmílson from Olympique Lyonnais after four years with the French champions. By contrast, López has been with Barça, his hometown team, since 1999 and made his debut in May 2003. Last season he played seven league and four Copa del Rey matches.
UEFA Cup hopes
He will be hopeful of European action with Lazio who finished sixth in Serie A last term and lifted the Coppa Italia to qualify for the UEFA Cup.
