On the up
The 18-year-old centre-back made his Newcastle debut in the UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg against RCD Mallorca last month, coming on in the 81st minute as a replacement for Andy O'Brien. That was followed by his first Premiership start three days later, when he played as a right-back in the 1-0 defeat by Bolton Wanderers FC.
Woodgate injury
More opportunities may follow for Taylor before the end of this season with Jonathan Woodgate injured. Les Reed, Taylor's coach at England Under-17 level, said: "He shows great leadership qualities and could go all the way to the very highest level."
