Belgian international Sven Vermant is to leave FC Schalke 04 during the winter break after falling out of favour with the German UEFA Cup contenders
Chances limited
The former Club Brugge KV midfield player has been with Schalke since summer 2001, yet has played just 14 minutes of football this season following the appointment of coach Jupp Heynckes. General manager Rudi Assauer has granted Vermant, 30, permission to leave Schalke when the transfer window opens in January.
'Too ambitious'
Vermant said: "I am too ambitious to sit in the stands. I want to play again but do not fit into the system. I will take this like a professional and will leave." Schalke are tenth in the Bundesliga and will play Brøndby IF in the second round of the UEFA Cup.
