Baup moves upstairs
Bordeaux lie 16th in Ligue 1 after ten matches and have responded by restructuring their coaching team. Baup will move upstairs into the role of technical director, while Pavon takes charge of the first team.
Title winner
Pavon, 35, was an integral part of the Bordeaux side which, under Baup, won the league title in 1999. He moved on to Real Betis Balompié but stopped playing in 2002 after suffering a serious knee injury. He had since returned to Bordeaux to join the coaching staff. He told the club's website: "This is a club I love, which I gave everything for and it saddened me to see them in this position. If I can help, I will do so willingly."
Club statement
A club statement explained that "Baup has been appointed technical director with the task of overseeing all of the club's teams". Baup himself sounded less impressed when he said: "My contract stipulates I'm to train the senior professionals and I'm now handed a different role. It's a disguised dismissal in my eyes."
UEFA Cup
Bordeaux won through to the second round of the UEFA Cup this month with a 3-2 aggregate victory over FK Artmedia Petrzalka and will face Heart of Midlothian FC next.
