Medical passed
The 28-year-old underwent a medical before signing a four-year deal with the English Premiership side. "[Manager] Gordon Strachan has wanted him for a long time so I'm delighted to have got him," Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe told the club's website.
Terms fit scale
"The terms fit our salary scale so we think he will be a good acquisition. I am working on a couple of other things and I am hopeful of doing another deal before the start of the season."
De Pedro interest
McCann's arrival means that last season's FA Cup runners-up will not pursue their interest in Real Sociedad de Fútbol's Javier De Pedro in the short term. However, the club did say in a statement: "De Pedro is keen to sign a pre-contract agreement in the New Year to enable him to come to Southampton on a Bosman free in a year's time."
Phillips bid
Meanwhile, Southampton have also had a €4.2m bid accepted from Sunderland AFC for forward Kevin Phillips and have been given permission to discuss terms with the former England international.
