Brazil centre-half Anderson Polga has signed a three-year contract with UEFA Cup contenders Sporting Clube de Portugal and will link up with the club on 1 August.
Out of contract
The 24-year-old international defender, whose contract with Grémio de Porto Alegre had expired, was tempted to the Portuguese club on a free transfer. "I am very happy," he said. "Sporting will provide me with all the conditions to do a great job."
Strong shot
Anderson played two matches at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, after some strong showings in friendly matches for Brazil. He possesses a strong shot, and has already scored three goals for his country in 12 matches.
