Former Manchester United FC and England winger Lee Sharpe has left Icelandic club Grindavík because of injury.
Season-long contract
Sharpe joined Grindavík in the spring on a contract until the end of the season in September but a back problem suffered in the cup victory over Keflavík earlier this month meant he was likely to miss the rest of the campaign.
Ruled out
Sharpe was ruled out for between six and eight weeks and with the campaign ending on 20 September, both parties decided to cut their losses now. The 32-year-old made four league appearances and was looking forward to the challenge of UEFA Cup football with a qualifying round tie in August against FC Kärnten.
'We'll miss him'
"We are going miss him," said coach Bjarni Johannsson. "He certainly fulfilled our expectations, we knew it would take him some time to get into top shape but he showed some good things and would surely have helped us more."
