Article body
Boavista FC overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Maccabi Tel-Aviv with an emphatic 4-1 victory in the home return.
Own goal
Brazilian midfield player Jocivalter was the two-goal hero for the Portuguese side at the Bessa stadium as they ended up 4-2 aggregate winners. The scoring started in the sixth minute, with Maccabi's Avi Strool putting through his own net.
Deficit reduced
Jocivalter then scored his first just after the half-hour mark, before Serginho seemingly finished the tie as a contest with his side's third on 53 minutes. However, Amir Torjman reduced the deficit with 15 minutes still to play.
Hopes ended
Yet the Israeli team, who had staged the first leg in Bulgaria because of the security situation at home, could not find the strike that would have taken them through on away goals. As it was, Jocivalter ended any hopes with his second just before the final whistle.
