Article body
FC Porto confirmed today that they have reached an agreement with Vitória Setúbal to sign Portuguese international winger Marco Ferreira at the end of the season.
International debut
The 24-year-old, who made his international debut in a friendly against Tunisia earlier this month, has been targeted by a number of clubs but Porto have acted first and will sign Marco Ferreira on a four-year contract.
'Agreement reached'
A statement on the Lisbon club's official website said: "Marco Ferreira will be an FC Porto player until 2007. The player reached an agreement this afternoon with FC Porto and signed a deal which will tie him to the club for the next four seasons."
Japanese spell
No details of the fee have been released but reports in Portugal estimate that it is in the region of €1.3m, possibly with a Porto player also going on loan to Setúbal. Marco Ferreira's career began at FC Tirsense before spells with Club Atlético de Madrid's reserve team and Japanese side Yokohama Flugels.
Gothenburg victory
He returned to Portugal to play for FC Paços Ferreira, then a second division team, at the beginning of the 1998/99 season before moving to Setúbal the following term. Marco Ferreira followed up his international debut with another appearance in the 3-2 defeat of Sweden in Gothenburg on 16 October. Porto meet FK Austria Wien in the second round of the UEFA Cup.
