Vaduz run out of time

Livingston 0-0 FC Vaduz (Aggregate 1-1, Livingston win on away goals)
Scottish side Livingston FC tonight progressed to the first round of the UEFA Cup on away goals after surviving a late scare against their visitors from Liechtenstein.

Late drama
Vaduz had the ball in the back of the net three minutes into added time through Marius Zarn - but referee Ivan Novak had already blown for full time. That meant Livingston went though thanks to the away goal rule following their 1-1 away draw two weeks ago, and now join league rivals Aberdeen FC, Rangers FC and Celtic FC in tomorrow’s first-round draw.

Historic occasion
This game was always going to be a historic occasion for Livingston no matter what the outcome was. Their first ever European tie on home soil was just the latest chapter in the fairytale which has shaped the club during their seven years of existence after winning three successive promotions before clinching third place in the Scottish Premier League last season.

Bright start
Vaduz started tonight's game brightly, seeing a sixth-minute chance saved, before the home side went close through a Rolando Zarate free-kick after 21 minutes. The same player then nodded a clear opening wide just before the end of an open, entertaining first half.

Telser sent off
The second period followed a similar pattern, with neither side quite able to find the finishing touch. When Vaduz, who had seen Martin Telser dismissed in the 74th minute, did, with the final action of the game, their effort proved too late, despite much protestation.
