FK Atyrau 0-0 ŠKM Púchov
FK Atyrau, one of two clubs from Kazakhstan in the UEFA Cup, celebrated their debut in the competition by holding Slovakian visitors ŠKM Púchov to a goalless draw in the first leg of their qualifying-round tie.
Solid resistance
Atyrau enjoyed the better of the match, and carved out several chances in a game played in sweltering conditions. However, they were unable to break down the Slovakian club's resolute rearguard.
Frustration for crowd
A 10,000 crowd hoped to see the hosts pull off a fine success on their UEFA Cup baptism, but they endured 90 minutes of frustration, despite the referee playing nine minutes of added time.
Testing evening
Puchov were happy to survive a testing evening, and will now fancy their chances of winning the return leg in Slovakia in two weeks' time.
