UEFA Europa League BoxDrop special in Rome

A surprise UEFA Europa League BoxDrop event outside the Stadio Olimpico invited Roma fans to emulate their coach José Mourinho.

Rome's Europa League BoxDrop event

It’s not often football fans get the chance to emulate one of their heroes, but that’s exactly what happened at the UEFA Europa League Matchday 6 game between Roma and Ludogorets.

As part of the UEFA Europa League #WhereAnythingCanHappen campaign, Roma supporters were thrilled to be offered their very own temporary version of José Mourinho’s European treble tattoo, courtesy of a surprise UEFA Europa League BoxDrop event outside the Stadio Olimpico.

The Roma coach made headlines all over the world this summer after revealing his tattoo, which features the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa Conference League trophies. Roma became the inaugural Europa Conference League winners when they beat Feyenoord in May.

He said at the time that as the first manager to clinch all three of those European trophies, he was “the only one who can have it”.

The BoxDrop special, which is part of the UEFA Europa League #WhereAnythingCanHappen campaign, set out to change that.

A Europa League shipping container, fully decorated as a tattoo parlour with 1,000 temporary transfers on offer, was dropped outside the Stadio Olimpico before the Ludogorets game. Fans were invited to get inked like Mourinho, with Roma club crest tattoos also available.

Hundreds of supporters took part in the event ahead of a memorable night, Mourinho’s side coming from behind at the break to claim a 3-1 victory and qualify for the knockout round play-offs.

Standing between the Giallorossi and the round of 16 are Salzburg, who last season reached that same stage of the UEFA Champions League.

The UEFA Europa League #WhereAnythingCanHappen campaign highlights the unpredictability of the competition. Every year, it delivers something you just never saw coming!
