🗺️ Getting to Bilbao
Citizens of EU or Schengen member states can enter Spain with a passport or national identity card.
Nationals from other countries must enter Spain with a passport and should check the full entry requirements before travelling.
Bilbao airport [BIO] is located north of the city centre. A bus service links the airport with Bilbao Intermodal Station, including stops within the city centre. The service runs regularly throughout the day and takes approximately 20 minutes.
Additional airports to consider are:
- Vitoria airport [VIT] (60 mins drive)
- Santander airport [SDR] (80 mins drive)
- San Sebastián airport [EAS] (90 mins drive)
- Madrid airport [MAD] (4 hour drive)
💡 For the most direct / convenient journey options, book your travel early.
There are direct train services connecting Bilbao to Madrid in 4h 45mins.
Long distance coaches will arrive at Bilbao Intermodal Station with regular services between Madrid and central Spain, Barcelona and the Mediterranean area, north-west Spain and France.

It is not recommended to travel to Bilbao by car on matchday as the city centre traffic will be busy. If you must drive, consider using the Metro Bilbao park + ride services (which includes BEC - Bilbao Exhibition Centre, located near Ansio station).
Travelling around the city 🧭
It’s best to explore Bilbao on foot! If you need to use public transport (such as metro, tram and bus) consider purchasing a Barik (valid for up to 10 people) or a Bilbao Biscay Card to travel without cash.

🏟️ Getting to the stadium
🔔 Stadium gates open at 18:00. Additional security and ticket checks will be in place around the stadium. Arrive from 3 hours before kick-off.
🟢 Walking is the best way to arrive as the San Mamés Stadium located in the heart of the city!
🟠 Public transport stations in close proximity to the stadium will be closed for stadium travel. Indautxu or Deusto metro stations (lines 1 & 2) or Euskalduna tram stop will be the nearest options.
🔴 There will be extensive road closures around the stadium, so avoid driving or using taxi / ridesharing options.

👋 Post match
If the match concludes during normal time, the post-match trophy ceremony and accompanying celebrations should finish by 23:30. If the match goes to extra time or penalties, expect the action on the pitch to continue until around 00:15.
