UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round draw

The 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round draw took place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday 24 July.

The two-legged third qualifying round ties will take place on 10 and 17 August. Set match dates will be communicated in writing to the clubs and national associations by 18:00 CET on Tuesday 25 July.

Conditions of the draw

In accordance with paragraphs 13.05 and 13.06 of the Regulations of the UEFA Europa Conference League 2023/24, no teams were seeded and the UEFA administration formed groups for the purpose of this draw.

The two teams and eight pairings (FC Flora Tallinn and Lincoln Red Imps FC directly progressing from the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round champions path, and eight pairings through the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round champions path) were divided into one group of one team and five pairings (group 1) and one group of one team and three pairings (group 2).

An open draw was held to determine the pairings.

Any changes of date and fixture reversals will be communicated in writing to the clubs and national associations by 18:00 CET on Tuesday 25 July.

Draw procedure

One bowl was prepared to draw each group.

Starting with group 1, two balls were drawn from the pot to determine the first pairing. The first ball drawn represented the home team for the first match, and the second the away team.

The same procedure was carried out with the remaining balls to complete all the pairings for group 1.

The same procedure was then repeated to determine the pairings for group 2.

Conditions of the draw

In accordance with paragraphs 13.03 and 13.04 of the Regulations of the UEFA Europa Conference League 2023/24, the UEFA administration formed groups and seeded clubs for the third qualifying round draw based on the club rankings established at the beginning of the season and the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee.

The 54 teams (nine that entered the competition at this stage and the 45 winners of the second qualifying round main path ties) were divided into three groups of eight teams (groups 1 to 3) and three groups of ten teams (groups 4 to 6).

Within each of the six groups, the teams were divided into an equal number of seeded and unseeded teams (27 seeded teams and 27 unseeded teams in total).

Teams from the same association could not be drawn against each other.

If any club in a second qualifying round match had a coefficient that would entitle it to be seeded for the third qualifying round draw, the winner of that match was automatically seeded for the draw.

Any changes of date and fixture reversals will be communicated in writing to the clubs and national associations by 18:00 CET on Tuesday 25 July.

Draw procedure

Groups 1 to 3

Each club in the three groups was randomly assigned a number: 1 to 4 for the seeded teams and 5 to 8 for the unseeded teams.

Three bowls were prepared for the draw, with the balls containing the numbers for the seeded and unseeded teams placed in the correspondingly marked bowls.

One ball was taken from each of those bowls and placed in the third empty central bowl, where they were shuffled and drawn again. The number shown from the first ball then drawn from this bowl indicated the home teams of the first pairing of all three groups, and they will play against the teams indicated by the number of the ball drawn second from this bowl.

For example, if the first ball drawn contained the number 2 and the second the number 8, the clubs that were assigned the numbers 2 and 8 in each of the three groups will play each other. The first ball drawn, here containing the number 2, designates the home team for the first leg in all three ties.

The same procedure was carried out with the remaining balls to complete the pairings.

Groups 4 to 6

The procedure for these three groups was exactly the same as above, with the only difference being that the seeded teams were assigned numbers 1 to 5, and the unseeded teams assigned numbers 6 to 10.
