UEFA EURO 2020 set a new record for final-tournament goals the moment Mislav Oršić struck for Croatia against Spain in the round of 16 to take this summer's tally to 109 – which surpassed the previous best set in 2016.
A further 14 goals would be scored in the remaining last-16 matches, followed by another 19 strikes over the course of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final itself – Italy 1-1 England – to take the tournament's overall total to 142. Of course, this was only the second tournament to use the expanded 24-team format, but UEFA EURO 2020 also topped the goals-per-game ratio for UEFA European Championships since the group stage was introduced in 1980.
