Robben rejoices after Dutch Wembley win

Arjen Robben spoke of his delight at being part of the current Netherlands side after opening and closing the scoring in Wednesday's dramatic 3-2 victory over England at Wembley. The forward did, however, express his concern at how the visitors threw away a two-goal lead with a view to UEFA EURO 2012, while England captain Scott Parker revealed his pride at leading out the Three Lions in spite of defeat.

It was a very nice evening. It's great to be with the lads again and to train at such a high level. There's so much quality in our team. I received plenty of passes today, which isn't always the case, so it was great playing here. I told the coach how much I was enjoying myself at half-time.

I do have one small criticism, though. You should never give away a two-goal lead, especially with the EURO coming up. We need to finish off these kinds of games. They got it back to 2-2 and I don't think anyone was expecting another goal, but thankfully we got one right at the end.

Beating England here at Wembley was a good yardstick for us [ahead of UEFA EURO 2012]. We wanted to win this game at all costs. It was a shame we conceded two goals, but to go on and score a winner at such a late stage showed real character.

The first goal was really well worked. Some great running from Klaas-Jan [Huntelaar], who created the space for Arjen to score. Arjen is very important for us and it was nice for him to score two. You could see he was getting better and better as the match progressed.

It was a very proud day, something I dreamt of as a boy. I was thinking about leading the team out all day but nothing can prepare you for when it actually happens. When you hear the national anthems, it really hits you. It was quite emotional.

It was a tough game against a very good team. At 2-0 down we could have hidden in our shells, so I think we have to take positives from the fact we got back into the game at 2-2. Obviously we're a little disappointed that we let one in so late.

It was good for me personally [to start for the first time in over four years] but obviously we're a bit disappointed with the result. I thought we did well to get back from 2-0 down, but Robben produced something special for the [winning] goal.

It was disappointing to concede three tonight but we learned something. It was an opportunity for the younger players to force themselves into the EURO squad. When you go to tournaments you need a bit of experience and that's what these friendlies are for.

I think this game will have given the younger players the confidence to go into the [UEFA European] Championship, if selected, knowing they're able to do the job against a side like the Netherlands, who will be one of the favourites. I don't think we have anything to fear. Tonight proved we can perform against the best players and also that we can perform well for the nation.
