Spain seek perfect home record against Scots

Spain will look to round off their UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign with a perfect home record when Scotland become their final visitors in Group I.

• Spain have been certain of their place at the finals since their 6-0 win against Liechtenstein on 6 September. That made it three straight home victories in qualifying with 11 goals scored.

• The reigning world and European champions won 3-2 at Hampden Park in these sides' first Group I meeting on 12 October 2010. Substitute Fernando Llorente scored the winner with 11 minutes left after Scotland had fought back from two goals down. David Villa's penalty (44) and an Andrés Iniesta strike (55) put Spain ahead but a Steven Naismith effort (58) and an own goal by Gerard Piqué (66) evened things up.

• Spain's record in 12 games against Scotland is W4 D4 L4 (W3 D3 L1 at home).

• The teams' two most recent meetings in Spain – both friendlies – ended in draws. Scotland earned a 0-0 stalemate in Madrid on 27 April 1988 and held Spain 1-1 in Valencia on 3 September 2004, albeit the match was abandoned after 60 minutes for a floodlight failure.

• Scotland won 4-2 when the nations locked horns for the first time in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on 8 May 1957.

• Spain hit back with a 2-1 victory in a UEFA European Championship qualifier at Hampden Park on 20 November 1974, but they lost 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier on their next visit on 14 November 1984.

• If goalkeeper Iker Casillas plays in both of Spain's final Group I games he will match Andoni Zubizarreta's national record of 126 international appearances.
