Orange was today announced as the eighth global partner of UEFA EURO 2012 to take place in Poland/Ukraine in the summer of 2012, on the occasion of a special ceremony held at the Palace of Culture in Warsaw.
Orange will be the official telecommunications partner in 11 European countries. In Poland, Telekomunikacja Polska (Orange and TP) will also be an official technology partner of UEFA for its flagship national team competition. The 11 territories included in the sponsorship agreement are Armenia, Austria, France, Luxembourg, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
As part of the agreement, Orange will benefit from perimeter boards exposure, and will, together with UEFA, develop and distribute the official mobile application to ensure football fans across the Orange territories experience and share the passion of UEFA EURO 2012. As part of its activation programme, Orange will also offer fans the chance to win match tickets for UEFA EURO 2012 through various competitions and promotions.
Commenting on the agreement, UEFA Events SA CEO David Taylor, said:
"We are delighted to welcome Orange and TP to the UEFA EURO 2012 sponsorship family. We expect UEFA EURO 2012 to be a huge success and are excited about the prospect of taking Europe's elite national team competition to Poland and Ukraine. As Host Broadcaster for UEFA EURO 2012 it is crucial we have best-in-class services from Orange and TP, our technology partner, in order to deliver the live match signals from Polish stadiums to UEFA's many broadcaster partners and then on to football fans around the world.
"In addition, the various Orange consumer services to be developed for UEFA EURO 2012 will ensure fans across the Orange territories have new ways of enjoying and sharing the passion for Europe's flagship national team tournament."
Olaf Swantee, Executive Vice President of Europe for Orange, said: "This is a significant and exciting announcement for Orange. It is the largest pan-European sponsorship project we have ever done, and a testament to the strength of our brand and its growth across Europe. We put people, as UEFA puts its fans, at the centre of our values. It's a great fit - and together we bring customers and fans closer to the things they love."
Maciej Witucki, President of Telekomunikacja Polska Group added. "We are proud that Telekomunikacja Polska and Orange will be part of the technology solution supporting UEFA EURO 2012 at the highest level. Together with UEFA we are going to provide technology solutions which will enable communication and data transfer among official UEFA EURO 2012 sites in Poland, including stadiums and the International Broadcast Centre. I am convinced that the partnership between UEFA, TP and Orange will have a major contribution to the success of this historical event for Poland."
