Match background
• This will be the teams' third meeting. They were paired in qualifying for UEFA EURO 2004, with Romania winning both games.
• The sides first met in Sarajevo on 7 September 2002, but the game was all over as a contest inside 27 minutes, as goals from Cristian Chivu, Dorinel Munteanu and Ioan Ganea secured a 3-0 win for Anghel Iordănescu's visitors.
• The return fixture in Craiova on 7 June 2003 was goalless at half-time, but Adrian Mutu scored within seconds of the restart, with Ganea making it 2-0 three minutes from time.
• Romania have made a disappointing start to UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying, taking just two points from their games. They are second from bottom in Group D, but just two points adrift of Bosnia and Herzegovina in fourth.
