Mirsad Jonuz has been relieved of his post as coach of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia following a disappointing recent run of results in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying.
The decision was reached by the Executive Board of the Football Association of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FFM) following a review of a report by Jonuz regarding FYROM's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying results. "A unanimous decision has been reached to dismiss Mirsad Jonuz as a coach of the national team," read a statement by the FFM.
The 49-year-old, who replaced Srečko Katanec as national team coach in May 2009 after six years at the helm of FYROM's Under-21 side, leaves his post exactly two weeks after their 2-0 defeat against the Republic of Ireland.
The Skopje reverse was FYROM's third consecutive UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying defeat, and fourth in total, which left Jonuz's side second from bottom of Group B, nine points adrift of Giovanni Trapattoni's side, Russia and Slovakia, with four games to go.
FFM also announced that their Executive Board will discuss candidates for the post of Jonuz's successor at their next meeting. FYROM's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign resumes against Russia in Moscow on 2 September.
