Two steps forward for Azerbaijan

The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) held its ordinary congress on 5 March – and it proved a historic event for the football family in Azerbaijan.

Chief among the items approved by the assembly was the new AFFA logo, which takes the form of a football turning into flames in the colours of the national flag, with the Azerbaijani crescent in the middle. The design represents Azerbaijan as a land of fire, as is tradition.

The AFFA also launched a second website – affavideo.az – which went online on the day of the congress. Highlights of matches involving all Azerbaijan's national teams, plus images and shots from AFFA events, will be available on this resource, along with interviews with AFFA officials, players and coaches. The association's principal website remains affa.az.

The video site will also cover the Azerbaijani Premier League and the domestic cup (Azärbaycan Kuboku), and will carry filmed content about the AFFA leagues, grassroots initiatives, infrastructure and education. The AFFA hopes this initiative will increase and strengthen the popularity of football in Azerbaijan.
