Senegal give Greece food for thought

Greece's FIFA World Cup preparations received an early blow as second-half goals from Mamadou Niang and Guirane N'Daw consigned them to a friendly defeat by Senegal.

Otto Rehhagel's side struggled to find their rhythm throughout at the Panthessaliko Stadium and fell behind 19 minutes from time when Olympique de Marseille's Niang danced past the back line and fired a low shot beyond substitute goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias. Another France-based player, AS Saint-Etienne's N'Daw, doubled the visitors' advantage with a fine free-kick nine minutes later, leaving Rehhagel to predict a busy few months ahead.

"We have a lot to do," said the German, whose team will meet the Korea Republic, Nigeria and Argentina in Group B this summer. "I just found out that the Korea Republic defeated Ivory Coast 2-0 and that goes to show how, if we are going to survive our World Cup group, we will have to work harder." The closest his side came against Senegal was at the end of the first half when a cross from debutant Pantelis Kapetanos evaded Giorgos Samaras with the goal at his mercy.
