The clothing that the 6,000 volunteers working at UEFA EURO 2012 will wear next summer has been unveiled at a ceremony in Kyiv.
Made by adidas, the uniform consists of T-shirt, polo shirt or blouse, rain jacket, trousers, shorts, socks, running shoes, cap, rucksack and a belt case. Sky blue was chosen since it is one of the five key colours of the final tournament branding as well as being a continuation of the colour scheme used in designing the attire worn by volunteers at UEFA EURO 2008. Adorning the uniform is the tournament logo and a characteristic V for volunteering sign.
The kit was presented at the Kyiv National Linguistic University, a significant location given that all volunteers wanting to work in Poland and Ukraine must be fluent in English. Those in attendance caught a first glimpse of the garments when Friends of UEFA EURO 2012 Olexandr 'Fozzi' Sydorenko and Olexandr Pedan were escorted on to the stage by the tournament mascots, Slavek and Slavko.
"To be a volunteer is great. Get involved in the campaign in order to put on the uniform we are wearing now and let's host EURO 2012 in the best way we can," said Fozzi, a musician and television personality. Pedan, a popular comedian, added: "We hope this will encourage you to wear the same gear. It is very comfortable and high quality."
Members of the media wishing to see the uniform in person and interview some volunteers are invited to an open day in Warsaw at 11.00CET on Sunday in the bureau of EURO 2012 Polska, al. Jana Pawła II. Those wishing to attend have until 16.00CET on Friday to apply for accreditation. Applications should be sent to media.pol@euro2012.
