Cyprus coach Angelos Anastasiadis has unexpectedly recalled goalkeeper Michalis Morfis to his 21-man squad for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2012 Group H qualifiers against Norway and Denmark on 8 and 12 October.
Morfis is currently plying his trade in Cyprus's second tier with PAEEK Kyrenia FC after leaving APOEL FC in the summer, the 31-year-old having fallen out of favour at the club where he had spent his entire career. He will now be hoping to add to his 20 international caps – the most memorable of which came in the 5-2 victory against the Republic of Ireland in 2006 – though he lost his starting place to Antonis Georgallides the following year.
Cyprus made a positive start to their bid to reach the finals in Poland and Ukraine with a thrilling 4-4 draw in Portugal on 3 September.
