Switzerland 1-3 Uruguay
Diego Forlán, Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani were all on target as Uruguay came from behind to beat fellow FIFA World Cup hopefuls Switzerland at a canter.
Ottmar Hitzfeld's side advanced to South Africa after finishing top of their group, but have lost some of their momentum since qualifying ended, going down 1-0 at home to Norway in November. The evening had started brightly enough as Gökhan Inler's penalty just before the half-hour put the hosts ahead. Forlán soon equalised, however, and Switzerland had no answer from there on in.
It was little more than the South American side deserved; but for a rush of blood, Suárez would have put them ahead in the early stages, the AFC Ajax man doing the hard work by rounding Marco Wölfi only to shoot wide. He got on the scoresheet four minutes into the second half, and though a raft of substitutions took the sting out of the game – and Uruguay's dominance – Cavani sealed the win three minutes from time.
