France winger Franck Ribéry has come through an operation on his left leg in Germany, two days after he was forced out of Les Bleus' final Group C game in Zurich with a severely twisted ankle.

Tuesday elimination
The FC Bayern München player suffered a high ankle sprain early in the match, lost 2-0 to Italy, which signalled the end of France's EURO campaign. He had successful surgery today in the Bavarian capital, according to the Munich-Bogenhausen clinic. The 25-year-old lasted only ten minutes of the Group C finale, being carried off the pitch after getting caught in a tangle of legs with Italy's Gianluca Zambrotta. The exact nature of the injury was a rupture of the ligament connecting the fibula to the tibia in his lower left leg. Bayern expect Ribéry's rehabilitation to take seven to eight weeks. France finished bottom of Group C after their opening draw with Romania preceded defeats by Netherlands and Italy.
