Germany harbour Podolski doubts

Joachim Löw admits there is a "big question mark" against Lukas Podolski playing in Germany's quarter-final against Portugal because of a calf problem.

Calf trouble
The 23-year-old FC Bayern München forward was carrying the injury during the decisive 1-0 Group B win against co-hosts Austria on Monday, and Löw is not sure whether he will be available for Thursday's game at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. "Lukas is suffering from calf trouble, which affected him in the second half against Austria," said the Germany coach. "Our medical team will do everything they can in the coming days to get him fit, but there is a big question mark over whether he can play." Podolski has scored three of Germany's four goals at the finals, registering twice in the 2-0 opening victory over Poland and also netting in the 2-1 defeat by Croatia. Michael Ballack got the goal that sealed second place in the group at Austria's expense in Vienna.
